(Estate by Joāo Gilberto) It's a sweet Italian song sung with a Brazilian accent, by our most original singer. He is the greatest when singing Tom Jobim's songs. The melody is so rich, its tempo is slow, his voice is clear, with long notes, without any runaround.
In 1984 when I was studying Literature at University, I was still a student when I started working as a waiter and it was when this interest for wines and spirits emerged. At that time, I realized how unique, complex and magic this world could be and how it resembled Literature. Both of them have a never-ending story.
I unintentionally found out about Louis XIII seven years ago during one of my trips, I mean, one of my vino trips through Europe. The most important was the experience to taste Louis XIII for the first time. It gathers aromas and tastes that embrace the whole range of different beverages. I can describe it as a nectar that gathers aromas and tastes of all distillates and fermented in a unique product; it is a concentration of various beverages. The feeling of tasting a Louis XIII for the first time lasts and every new experience revives it. I compare it with Literature and Poetry: Literature is the language full of meanings; Poetry is the highest level of meaning and concentration. In this way, Louis XIII is a masterpiece of Poetry. It is impossible to forget the first experience and the following ones.
I believe people live to fulfill their dreams. They want their dreams to come true but I believe that you have dreams that you may not be aware of.Tasting something such as Louis XIII is like making a dream come true, even if you haven't dreamt of it before. Louis XIII is a dream in itself.
My biggest dream is to see beverages being appreciated, not as an alcoholic product or for pure pleasure, but as a cultural symbol.They should be appreciated with all our senses, stimulating perceptions as in an art exhibition or in a concert. Adding musicality whilst tasting beverages reveals a visual experience that makes us appreciate its tones and hues, just like paintings and other works of art, added to olfactory and tasting experiences.This would be my greatest dream, that every person would learn and enjoy beverages as a true work of art.
