QUEST FOR A LEGEND
The Quest will scour the globe in pursuit of the rarest LOUIS XIII decanter on earth, starting in February 2015 in the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and India; the search will soon after spread to other parts of the world.
It is going to be a thrilling and emotional journey to encounter the LOUIS XIII legend. It will unite devotees of legacy, craftmanship, beauty, history, adventure and legend.
This Quest is not a race against time, it is time itself.
CAN YOU TELL US A STORY, A FAMOUS ANECDOTE ABOUT THIS PLACE THAT MAKES IT UNIQUE?
The wonderful structure that houses our private member's club for wine enthusiasts today, was originally Hamburg's post headquarters. It was created from 1883 to 1887 by the same architect as Berlin's beautiful cathedral: Julius Carl Raschdorff.
The wineBANK provides the perfect climate to store wines. Our members rent one of the 240 secure compartments and store their special bottles in it. They can access the wineBANK 24/7 with their member's card and entertain their guests in an chic, intimate, 600 sqm setting whenever they feel like it. Above that, wineBANK offers special community events with renowned sommeliers, wineries and partners like LOUIS XIII. At present further wineBANK locations are being created in Basel, Vienna, Frankfurt, Mainz and the Pfalz wine region. The first wineBANK was established in the Rheingau in 2009.

HOW DID YOU BECOME SO PASSIONATE ABOUT WINE & SPIRITS?
I live in the Rheingau wine region near Frankfurt and come from a hospitality background. My wife is a trained sommelier and Christian Ress, my business partner and the inventor of the wineBANK, owns one of the most well-known VDP wineries in Germany, called Balthasar Ress . Great food and excellent wines have always been important to me.
HOW AND WHEN DID YOU FIRST DISCOVER LOUIS XIII?
Beluga caviar, Perigord truffels, Kobe beef, 1961 Château Margaux or LOUIS XIII – as a foodie you obviously come across these amazing products. You read about them. Hear about them. And when you are lucky, you might even get the chance to try them. The first time I tried LOUIS XIII was in a wine cellar. And what shall I say: An explosion of flavors. Smooth. Rich. Bold. The finish almost lasted forever. Outstanding. A taste that I personally will never forget.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ABOUT LOUIS XIII TO SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER TASTED IT?
LOUIS XIII is an experience more than a simple spirit. It makes you want to lay back and kick off your shoes in order to indulge in the moment. What I am trying to say is: If you get the chance to taste it – go for it!
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST DREAM IN LIFE?
My wife and I are passionate travellers. I can't wait to introduce our son to our favorite places in the world together. Healthy, happy and with a lot of time on our hands.
